North West CDC
The North West Community Development Council is one of five Community Development Councils set up across the Republic of Singapore to aid in local administration of governmental policies and schemes.
Every year, the North West CDC organises the Young Leaders Committee (YLC) Programme to groom and develop youth leaders. It was first mooted in 2002 and has successfully run for 11 years. Following the one year programme, the student leaders are graduated to the Youth Assembly (YA), where they will continue to learn and grow with their peers, seniors and juniors. The Yishun Town Secondary School Student Council nominates at least 2 Student Councillors to undergo this meaningful programme yearly. These Student Councillors will then bring back the knowledge and experiences to share with the remaining members of the Student Council.
A significant collaboration with the North West CDC was the North West Bus.MRT.Walk Challenge in 2012, a race around the North West District where participants could only travel by bus, MRT or foot. Our Student Councillors had the opportunity to work with the Youth Leaders of NW CDC to plan and execute a community event that aimed to promote cohesion.
