Enrichment Activities during Term 3 September holidays, 19th September
The term 3 September holidays were filled with the vibe of traditional flair for some of the YTzens as they spent their time over the holidays in some meaningful activities organised by their teachers from the mother tongue department. The activities included a variety of segments that allowed the participants to leverage on their critical thinking coupled with putting across their points in flawless articulation. Some of the segments to highlight include Book Reviews, Chinese Cross-talk, Malay Poetry Recital and Tamil Debate Competitions.

YTzens certainly had a ball with these activities, as they provided them with yet another opportunity to spend meaningful and fun-filled time with their friends and classmates whilst gaining greater grounds in understanding their culture and heritage.

Learning the mother tongue language is crucial as it is language that connects a person to his or her culture, and plays a pivotal role in understanding and appreciating their identity. It is basically a doorway to knowing oneself. With better understanding of one's own culture and identity, one will be better able to appreciate the culture and traditions of his peers, which is quintessential a quality that needs to be constantly nurtured in students in our dynamic and multifaceted society, so as to ensure and sustain a continuous harmonious environment.

Kudos to YTzens for championing such meaningful activities!!

The concert kick started with the formal recitation of the teachers' pledge, led by the school leaders, followed by performances by various classes that rocked the stage with K-pop dance performances, songs, and video montages that revisited some of the memorable highlights of the year. This was also a special event for the graduating cohort, as it was a rare opportunity for them to get together as a class and do something special to show their appreciation for their teachers, who have helped them along the way all these years.

The teachers on the other hand, were not only entertained, but also pampered, to say the least, as they were able to enjoy their sumptuous breakfast and goodies at the comfort of their seats, whilst enjoying the stunning and entertaining performance by the students. YTzens surely know how to put a smile on their teachers' faces.

This event would not have been possible without the careful planning and dedication by the organizing committee which comprised of teachers and student leaders. Special mention goes to the members of the Girl Guides Unit for tending to the teachers with much care and politeness as they presented each teachers with their goody bags with a beaming smile. Not to mention, the members from the various CCAs the likes of the PA unit for rending the stunning sound and visual portions, and the Photography Club members for capturing some of the memorable moments of the event, and made this year's Teacher's Day a successful and memorable one for all. YTzen poets emerge victorious, 21st July
YTzens from various levels participated in the annual National Schools Literature Festival (NSLF), which was initiated to inculcate passion and love for literature among students. This year, our Secondary 3 Unseen Poetry Debate Team defeated their opponents to emerge victorious, as they had to squeeze their creative juice with a touch of wit to write up poetry, without help or guidance from their teachers throughout the competition.

Their victory is a fitting reflection of the efforts put in, in preparation for this nationally acclaimed literature festival, and at the same time, very reflective of the students' keen interest in their extensive reading of materials pertaining to literature and related texts, that in-turn gave them the much needed surge of confidence in handling the competition single-handedly as a team.

Eat Breakfast With Your YTSS Family Day, 5th July

A bowling good time for our graduating cohort, 4th July
Graduating YTzens from secondary 4 and 5 were treated to a session of bowling at the Tampines Hub, organised by their friendly and affable Year Masters, as part of a casual get-together to distress, and to take some time off from their busy schedule in preparation for their major examination ahead in this semester. The students thoroughly enjoyed the session, as they took this opportunity to bond not only with their fellow cohort-mates but also with their teachers. It was a perky atmosphere as they chatted with one another freely and cheerfully, in an air of joviality. Indeed, an opportunity for them to see the lighter side of their teachers and peers, as they bowled and took some time off to ease up, amid their hectic exam preparations.

We wish the graduating cohort the very best, and advise them to give themselves enough time to study, practice past year papers, explain their answers to their friends, organize mini study groups, take regular breaks whilst studying, and to eat well, drink plenty of water and have enough rest, and once again remind them our school's motto, 'We Will Excel!!'

Visit to the Bicentennial Experience in Fort Canning Park, 3rd July
This year is special for Singapore as we commemorate the 'Bicentennial Celebration', which is the 200th anniversary of the founding of Singapore, by Sir Stamford Raffles in 1819. As part of an effort to expand on the greater understanding of the significance of this event, the government has initiated an exhibition of exuberance to allow Singaporeans and visitors from abroad to experience some of the significant events that took place in the pages of history, that has contributed to shape Singapore, from a small fishing village in 1819, to a British colony, and gradually to emerge as a full fledged independent nation in 1965, that is survived to this date, by the sheer will and determination of its people. Indeed Singapore has come a long way from a third word to a first world nation.

Although this is a bicentennial exhibition, it takes the visitors back to the 13th century, in the year 1299, to give a greater perception on the region and conditions that contributed to the evolution of the Singapore story. The exhibition is designed for visitors to connect on a multi-sensory level, with high-tech convenience. One of the two salient components in this exhibition is the 'Time Traveler', which is an indoor cinematic display, highlighting on the 700 years of Singapore's history and the other, the 'Path Finder', which is an outdoor trail, comprising of 8 interactive pavilions and installations.

The English Language and Literature Department has organised this unique exhibition for YTzens as part of their Learning Journey. We hope YTzen benefit immensely and gain greater understanding and appreciation for Singapore's history, and its evolution from its earliest days of survival, to present times of thrive.

Semester 2 Welcome Address by Principal Ms Yeo, 2nd July
After the restful June holidays, YTzens and teachers were back in full swing to start semester 2 on a good note. Ms Yeo took the podium to welcome YTzens with much warmth. One of the points she highlighted in her address to the school, was the remarkable achievement by one of our alumni, Mr Jeremy Tong, who braved the storm and the odds, to conquer Mount Everest, the tallest mountain in the world, after much dedicated training and persistence for the past 5 years. He has certainly done Singapore proud, in this momentous feat, and we are also glad YTSS has played a part in one way or another, in grooming Mr Jeremy to be determined, and disciplined in achieving his goals. His journey to Mount Everest was well documented in the local media. Please click here for a quick read-up on the article by Channel News Asia with further details on Mr Jeremy's expedition.

As we have begun this semester on a good note, having listened to inspirational stories of motivation and success, let us look within, set our goals high, and believe in ourselves in realizing them and thus reach for the stars.

To mark this tradition in solemn fashion, with much pomp and splendor, the red-carpet was once again rolled out, this time to welcome the invitees from neighboring schools and institutions to commemorate this special tradition.

This is indeed a fitting occasion to congratulate the seniors for their commendable accomplishment of service rendered to their fellow YTzens and the school in general over the years, and at the same time to officially appoint the Secondary 1 student councilors to probationary roles, and to commission the Secondary 2 student councilors with full-fledged appointment to the council.

We once again express our heartfelt appreciation and gratitude to the graduating student councilors for their invaluable contribution rendered over the years, and at the same time welcome and congratulate the new appointees with the best of wishes as they embark on this maiden journey of service and leadership.

Annual Literature Festival by English Language Department, 30th May
Learning the English Language took a different approach this post-exam season as YTzens gave life to the characters and props featured in popular books they engaged in for the department's 'Reading Program'. They created artifacts based on some of the props mentioned in their favorite books, gave presentations on some of the highlights featured, and also entertained the viewers with an interesting character parade by donning the costume of their favorite characters as described in the books.

As the saying goes, 'Mimicry or imitation is the sincerest form of flattery', the rendition of the characters, from books to life by the students only confirms their underlying appreciation for the texts they read, and in-turn, the respective authors.

Visit to Darul Makmur Mosque by YTzens from NCDCC Unit, 30th May
YTzens from NCDCC visited the neighbouring Darul Makmur Mosque, earlier today to volunteer in preparation of the porridge and distribution to the members of the public for their breaking of the day's fast, which is customary in this part of the region, during the holy month of Ramadan, which is a month of repentance and self-reflection. In this month, one is encouraged to do a self-assessment, and reflect on one's purpose and refine one's intentions for the better, and re-calibrate oneself to do the best for one's family and the community in general.

This gave many of the students an opportunity to not only visit a mosque for the first time, but also to volunteer in a noble cause as well. Singapore, being a multi-racial and multi-religious society, such activities are vital to further strengthen the social fabric. This encourages the upcoming generations to better understand and appreciate each other's cultural beliefs first-hand, so as to ensure the society continues to foster greater bonds, which is crucial for the stability and continued growth of our nation.

Kudos to YTSS NCDCC Unit for this noble initiative!!

YTSS Open Day, 21st May
It was yet another bustling day at YTSS, this time with young visitors, predominantly from the neighbouring primary schools along with their parents. The atmosphere was carnival-like, where our guests took a stroll at the precinct of the school-hall and called-on the interesting booths set-up by the stalwart representatives of the various CCAs to get to know a bit more on what they have to offer. It was an opportunity for the guests to deepen their understanding on YTSS and the range of programs, activities and CCAs it has in-stored, for them to make an informed decision on the school of choice for the next lap of their education.

As much as Academics, CCAs and Aesthetic programs are just as important, as they help to better shape and hone a student's communication, social, team-work and leadership skills, along with unleashing creativity in the arts, and heightening the awareness of appreciation for all aspects of human life, and not to mention, the eloquent expression of ones' thoughts in an appropriate form.

Hence, the range of well rounded programs offered here at YTSS helps to groom students into well balanced individuals who will excel and bloom into leaders of tomorrow.

.
In line with the respective themes, our Sec 1s learnt new things through a Marvel Workshop, Aesthetic Programme, Math Trail, Humanities Alive Programme and a Sandcastle building and class bonding activity while our Sec 2s and 3s immersed themselves in their respective adventure camps. She reminded that as we learn joyfully, we must also remember the value of GRATITUDE and give our thanks to the people who worked tirelessly behind the scenes to make this week possible.

Community Outreach by YTzens, 10th January
In YTSS, we believe that every YTzen must always find opportunities to give back to the community and do good for others. Today, our YTzens from several classes were out and about Yishun and beyond, to give back to the community by helping them to do some spring cleaning of their houses and distribute ration packs for residents, and raise money for the Singapore Heart Foundation. Our YTzens were also privileged to meet and work alongside with Minister K. Shanmugam. Let’s keep flying the YTSS flag high through our good deeds and care for others.

First Day of School, 2nd January
Teachers, Students and Staff were warmly welcomed by our principal, Ms Sharon Yeo, who address our school this morning and introduced our Vice Principals and Year Masters to everyone. In her First Day of School address, Ms Yeo shared the beauty of a brand new year. A new year, she shared, is a new beginning which brings new opportunities, new adventures and new openings to do what we want to do and for us to be the people that we really want to be. A new year is also an opportunity for us to be grateful to have a new chance at life. In 2019, Ms Yeo encouraged everyone to start well so that we can achieve our goals.

Message for Term 1, "LET’S START WELL & SPARKLE"
