HBL Information for Parents

31/03/2020

Dear Parents,

In light of the developing COVID-19 situation in Singapore, YTSS has put in place strict precautionary measures over the past two months to keep our school a safe environment for our students, and to allow our students to continue learning.

From April 2020, all MOE schools will implement one day of Home-Based Learning (HBL) a week. This will help us prepare for an extended period of HBL should the need arise, so that our students can continue with their learning.

Our school will be conducting HBL on Thursdays, starting from 2 April 2020. Classroom lessons will still proceed as usual on the other days of the week.

To help parents and guardians to understand more about HBL, MOE Communications and Engagement Group has prepared a Parent Kit to guide parents. It shares tips on on how they can complement the school’s HBL efforts and ensure learning continues to take place at home on HBL days. Parents are also invited to join a live Facebook Session hosted by MOE on 1 April, 8 – 9pm, where they can ask anything about HBL. Similarly, at YTSS, we have also prepared some information for you to understand more about HBL in our school.  You will find the information in the table below.

Full Home-Based Learning at YTSS from 8 April (Wed)

08/04/2020

Dear Parents / Guardians,

                                                         About Full Home Based Learning

In line with the Multi-Ministry Taskforce’s latest efforts to further enhance safe distancing measures, schools will step up their safe distancing measures. From 8 April 2020, all MOE schools will shift to full Home-Based Learning (HBL) till 4 May 2020.

At YTSS, we recognise that our students are facing a new, uncertain and changing environment. We believe that with proper planning, focus and self-discipline, our YTzens will be able to maximize their learning at home and lead a balanced lifestyle – of both play and study.

During this time, our School Leaders, teachers and staff are all committed to ensure that your child’s health and well-being remain our key focus. Our Form Teachers have spoken with your child to help assuage any concerns he/she may have and frame their learning for the next 4 weeks. If your child needs learning or emotional support, he/she can approach our teachers and school counsellor, who will continue to work from home or from school. Our teachers will also be in regular contact with you and your child.

How will my child be supported during Full Home Based Learning?

During Full HBL,

  •  schools will provide instructions and support for your child to access a range of
both online and hardcopy HBL resources so that learning can continue.

  • Our teachers have also designed lessons that do not always require students to stay online
to complete their work. This could include completing hard copy worksheets and assignments.

The Student Learning Space (SLS) will be the key online platform supporting schools’ Home Based Learning (HBL) measures in the event of any school closure. YTzens will be able to access detailed instructions for their lessons and lesson materials for the day will be uploaded daily.

Parents can refer to our HBL page (insert link here) which will be updated with consolidated weekly and daily lesson plan for your information.

We will continue to keep in regular contact with you and your child. Your child will also receive ongoing support of their teachers and other school personnel who will continue to work from home or from school. For students who need access to digital devices or internet access, assistance will be provided to them.

What other information is useful for me to know?

All school-based Mid-Year Examinations will be cancelled. However, national examinations, including the mid-year GCE O MTL examinations in June, and Year-End Examinations will proceed as planned and with the necessary precautionary measures in place.

Do ensure that your child stays at home and continues to observe good hygiene practices such as washing their hands frequently with soap. If he/she feels unwell, please seek medical attention promptly and inform his/her form teacher if he/she displays any fever or flu-like symptoms.

We plan to resume classes on 5 May 2020. MOE will continue to closely monitor the COVID-19 situation to assess if HBL needs to be extended. We urge you to rely on official sources of information and not to circulate any unconfirmed information.

If you have any further queries, please contact our General Office at 67587219, or email the school at ytss@moe.edu.sg.

FHBL Kit for Parents: Don’t Worry Be Steady

07/04/2020

Dear Parents/Guardians,

Starting from 8 Apr 2020, we will shift to Full Home-Based Learning (HBL) till 4 May 2020. It is an important stage in our fight against COVID-19 where we need to stay home, stay safe, and help our children stay curious.

Last week’s HBL has helped all of us to be better prepared. There will be issues and challenges as we move to Full HBL, but let’s work together to overcome them.

HBL cannot fully replace physical learning in school, but we can ensure that our children will be able to progress with learning while remaining safe.

We have come through challenges before, we can do it again. Let us partner to guide our children to tide through this and emerge stronger.

This issue of Parent Kit aims to help you understand what HBL is and how you can support your children during this period of Full HBL.

Resource Kit - HBL (Part 2).pdf

We hope you find the issue useful, especially for those of you who are also working from home.

Stay home, stay safe, stay curious.
